Throwing out the bathwater, but what about the baby?….by Amy Meyer

So often in Christianity, we throw out the baby with the bathwater. It seems we’re so afraid of being deceived that we just throw it all out; “cleansing the temple” of everything, just to be “safe”. If we were living back in Jesus day, would we have been guilty of throwing Christ out then too, as a baby, just because he didn’t come the way we thought or were programmed to believe? Would we have been like the Pharisee with our small boxed heads of belief and limit God’s ability and wisdom to do something different? Would we have rejected Christ as unclean, and not a King because He wasn’t born within the four walls of our belief?

Who then is God? Us or Him? Who gets the final say on what’s right or wrong? So what do we do? In our uncertainty and unfamiliarity, we throw the “baby” out with the bathwater. Some of us would even like to throw him out of the manger because it doesn’t fit our grid!” As Jesus said, “you pour over all the scriptures yet you reject the one your searching for when He’s standing right in front of you!”

When God does things in a way you don’t understand… Seek him and be teachable. Be open to His creative ways, and be humble. He’s God and you’re not. Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater just to keep your beliefs safe. What if your beliefs at that moment are wrong? What if you just threw out the Truth, when he was standing right in front of you?! Are you ruled by faith or fear? Faith believes and searches for the truth. Fear rejects and “cleanses” everything out, just to be safe.

What if you’re fearing being deceived, more than you’re trusting God to reveal the Truth to you at that moment? Could it be that you’d rather be in control? Oh yes! In the name of “safety” and “protecting the sheep!” But how could they really be safe in the hands of a “criminal act”. A criminal act you say?! Well, isn’t it considered criminal to throw a baby away? Isn’t it considered cruel and careless? Wouldn’t we be locked up for that? Just sayin… Is there not life in that baby and was He not created by the Heavenly Father with purpose? We must be able to rightly discern between good and evil…
2 Timothy 2:15 (NASB) Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.
Hebrews 5:14 The Passion Translation (TPT) But solid food is for the mature, whose spiritual senses perceive heavenly matters. And they have been adequately trained by what they’ve experienced to emerge with an understanding of the difference between what is truly excellent and what is evil and harmful.
This is an encouragement not to let fear rule you and appear as a “good thing” because you’re “cleansing the temple” doing a “clean sweep” of everything “you know” to “keep the people safe” or ourselves safe. Be led by the Spirit of God, not fear. Perfect love cast out fear. We are in a continual process of discovering God’s ways. Let love be your highest pursuit and outcome! Revelation is defined as revealing… for it was a mystery until it was revealed.
So may I suggest to you to not throw out the baby with the bathwater; the Mystery, but allow the Holy Spirit to reveal to you the things you may not understand yet. What we had believed in the “morning” of our life as a lie, we discover in the “afternoon” of our life it was Truth Himself, looking us in the eye.
Prov. 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.
Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
It will be healing to your [c]body
And refreshment to your bones.
I love you all very much! I pray this post awakened encouraged a humble and teachable heart in you to sit at the Master feet and be taught by Him and his heart of Mystery and love. It is He who leads us and guides us into all Truth! Immerse yourself in His perfect love and watch all fear, dissipate! Dip every belief in his abounding grace and love with revealing it’s true colors.
Love you! – Amy <3
